This one-day event delivers 8 hours of NSUOCO-sponsored CE, including the required 1 hour of Jurisprudence for Oklahoma licensure.

Our symposium features in-depth presentations on the latest advancements in cataract surgery, refractive procedures, oculoplastics, and case-based learning that you can immediately apply to your practice. What You'll Learn at OMEG Symposium

Cataract and Refractive Update

This course will highlight new IOL options, upgrades in the femtosecond technology for cataract surgery as well as review outcomes with Light Adjustable Lenses. This presentation will include some of the most difficult refractive cataract patients and how technology allowed them to achieve their desired outcome. This course will include the most recent advancements and future advancements in Ophthalmic Technology focusing specifically on Refractive Surgery and Refractive Cataract Surgery.

He Said She Said Case Discussion

Diagnostic and Treatment challenges will be presented with audience polling participation in the decision process. The discussion will include the latest literature review on each diagnosis and/or treatment option.

Oculoplastics Cases and Updates

This course will provide insight on who qualifies for medical blepharoplasty, what cosmetic lid surgery can provide for patients as well as post-operative pearls and expectations. Case presentations will be presented that highlight a literature review on cosmetic laser options for patients as well as the latest oculoplastic surgical updates.

Oklahoma JP

The goal of this presentation is to provide a practical understanding of Oklahoma Statutes relating to the practice of Optometry in Oklahoma. Additionally, this course meets the Oklahoma 1 hour requirement for license renewal.

Grand Rounds

This presentation will include a panel of Optometrists and Ophthalmologists discussing real case presentations, including a literature review of differential diagnosis and treatment options. The cases will include challenging glaucoma, corneal, refractive, neuro and cataract management.

Meet Our Expert Speakers

Jason Ellen, OD
Dr. Ellen graduated Cum Laude from Northeastern State University College of Optometry in May 1999, and furthered his education by completing an Ocular Disease and Refractive Surgery Residency through BVA Advanced Eyecare and TLC Laser Eye Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. During that time, Dr. Ellen became the first optometric resident in the US to perform refractive surgery. In 2015, Dr. Ellen partnered with Dr. Chad Chamberlain and together, they purchased a Tulsa practice to form Oklahoma Medical Eye Group (OMEG). Dr. Ellen currently serves as the Co-coordinator for the OMEG Residency in Ocular Disease and Ocular and Refractive Surgery with Dr. Jo'el Sturm.
Jo'el Sturm, OD
Dr. Sturm specializes in Refractive Surgery Management and Ocular Disease. When she is not participating in patient care, her focus is Business Development at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group. Dr. Sturm has a long history of developing referral centers for refractive surgery, new technologies in refractive cataract surgery and the treatment of keratoconus. She is an active member of the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians and Past President of the organization. Dr. Sturm lectures on effective patient communications, pre and post-surgical care, cross linking, keratoconus treatment, and refractive surgery – including refractive cataract surgery.
Haley Baldridge, OD
Dr. Haley Baldridge was born and grew up in Duncan Oklahoma. She did her undergraduate studies at Oklahoma State University and received her Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry. She went on to complete a residency in Ocular Disease at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group (OMEG)! It was during that residency at OMEG in Tulsa that she fell in love with helping people through treating eye disease. Dr. Baldridge's dream is to share the overwhelming joy that comes with improving vision and serve as a teacher for those she provides care for.
Brandon Hadel, OD
Dr. Brandon Hadel, O.D. is a graduate of the University of Kansas. He received his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry where he graduated Summa cum laude. In 2014, he completed one of the top residencies in the country at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City, where he received specialized training in ocular disease. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians. Dr. Hadel was appointed by Governor Stitt and served on the Oklahoma Board of Optometry. Dr. Hadel joined OMEG in 2015. He specializes in the treatment and post surgical management of Glaucoma.
Chad Chamberlain, DO
Dr. Chamberlain is an Oklahoma native and attended Northeastern State University for his undergraduate and premedical studies. He obtained his medical degree from OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his 4-year ophthalmology residency in Tulsa and pursued additional oculoplastic training under Dr. Gerry Hunter. Dr. Chamberlain practices comprehensive ophthalmology including laser assisted cataract and refractive surgery. He is recognized as a leading specialist in functional & cosmetic oculoplastic procedures including upper and lower lid & brow reconstruction.
Hannah Sanders, OD
Dr. Hannah Sanders grew up in Morrison, OK. She attended Oklahoma State University, and in 2017, she received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Ethical Leadership. In 2021, she earned her Doctor of Optometry from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry where she was awarded the Golden Retinoscope for Outstanding Clinician. Dr. Sanders completed residency training in Ocular Disease and Refractive/Ocular Surgery at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group and then spent a year in a mini fellowship with Dr. Chamberlain in Oculoplastics.

Proceeds from the OMEG Educational Symposium will go to benefit OMEG Vision For Humanity Inc., a non-profit organization established by the physicians at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group. For over 10 years, OMEG has quietly provided sight-saving medical care and surgery for those who cannot afford it.

Dr. Jason Ellen formally created OMEG Vision For Humanity Inc. as a non-profit organization dedicated to this mission. By attending our symposium, you become part of this important cause. Proceeds from this meeting will directly support efforts to benefit patients in need throughout our community.

Vision For Humanity exists to provide world-class education for students, doctors, and the community to promote a healthy life that starts with healthy vision. The organization provides sight-saving medical care and surgery to members of the community who cannot afford it.
